I love the ombre effect of colors fading into the next, so I created one for this flat even count peyote bracelet! I created the pattern on the Beader's Canvas software that we just got!

  1. View the Peyote Stitch Instructional Video for a how to on peyote stitch.
  2. Cut a 1yd piece of Fireline or longer, what ever you are comfortable working with, you will need to tie in a couple of times.
  3. String on a stop bead. To string a stop bead, pick up a bead and pass needle and thread through the bead in the same direction so that the thread wraps around the bead.
  4. Pick up 10 seed beads and let them slide down the thread to the stop bead.
  5. Pick up one seed bead; skip the last bead strung and pass through the next bead, going back towards the stop bead.
  6. Continue to pick up one bead, skip a bead, and pass through the next bead until you reach the end of the row.
  7. Continue to pick up beads and pass through the beads that are jutting out from the previous row. You will be filling in the gaps with beads as you stitch.
  8. To turn at the end of each row, simply pick up a bead and pass through the bead you just stitched into place. You may have to hold on to your working thread to keep your tension so as not to allow the work to loosen up.
  9. Follow the pattern for the color changes, using an index card to help mark your rows. As I worked this pattern I found that if I counted 5 beads per column of one color, I was more aware of when I need to change my colors.
  10. As mentioned you will need to add thread a couple of times, so be sure to secure your working thread by working it back through the stitches, half hitch knotting a couple of times. Add the thread in the same manner careful to end up where you stopped.
  11. Work the pattern until you reach your desired length, remembering the clasp will add about an inch or more to the length.
  12. To add the clasp, re-enforce the last two rows by tracing the thread back through the previous stitches out the second "UP" bead, string on 7 to 8 seed beads run the thread through the loop end of the toggle and secure by running the thread back through the top two rows and the string of beads of the toggle loop and half hitch knot a couple of times with in the work.
  13. For the bar part of the toggle used in this project, I had to adjust for the hole of the finding, as the seed beads did not go flow through, this is also a good place to add a bit of length if needed to fit properly. I added a few more seed beads and used an even amount on either side of the finding, re-enforcing and knotting as above.

Questions and Answers

Q: This question is not just about this project. It is about all of the projects because some of us are not as good with projects as we are with video's. I wanted to know if you have ever considered makking videos out of some of the projects due to the ones of us who like videos better than projects? I have a problem reading and then putting the actual thing together. If I have a video I can produce the product more likely than I could 99% of the time over reading it on paper. It seems like your site is becoming more and more projects than videos lately and that is very discouraging every time I see a new project pop up and to not be able to do it. I remember reading where other people felt the same way about not caring for the projects either. Thank you.
Asked by: Cynthia Saunders - 12/27/2014
A: I will often do something as a video when I get many request for it. I do have a several videos that apply to Peyote stitch. But I am always open to suggestions. I am often prompted to try something that I have not done, because you all have asked or suggested it. The video production has been on hiatus do to the holidays and we shall be back up and running in the New Year, 2015. If you do have specific ideas or project that you would like to see as a video, please let me know. My email is karla@auntiesbeads.com. I do my best to full fill all requests, it is not always possible, but I do try! Karla
