Jewelry Design Inspired by a Movie
Posted by Auntie's Beads on 11/1/2010 to Projects
New Years NecklaceMy husband and I are huge Netflix fans.  When my brother-in-law finally coaxed us not to be afraid of new technology, we invested in a Blu Ray player so we could instantly stream movies over the internet instead of waiting for them to come in the mail (and trust me we are bad about putting those back in the mail so we'll end up with "The Notebook" sitting on top of our entertainment center for two weeks).  Anyway now that we have the instant que set up, we're pretty much movie crazy.  Whenever we get free time, you can no doubt find us sifting through the thousands of Netflix movies looking for our next watch.

So a few nights ago we selected Home Room, a 2002 movie about the aftermath of a school shooting starring Busy Phillips.  I'm a sucker for drama so I had a feeling I was going to like the film, and I figured my husband would enjoy it too.  We did love the movie (yes, you should probably watch it but BE CAREFUL if you are offended by bad language- Busy Phillips' character has a potty mouth in this one) but more importantly, I got some great inspiration out of it.  Busy Phillips wears this necklace throughout the whole movie- it clasps together in the front (I couldn't tell how), is made of chain and has these two circles hanging from the clasp.  It's a very simple necklace and, fitting her character, has a gothic edge to it.  I just loved how it clasped in the front and dangeled two circular focals though, so I decided I had to design something similiar- but with a much softer edge.  Thus came to life, New Years Necklace, the project of the week.

I called it New Years Necklace because it looks like something you'd wear to a New Years Eve party and also because this is about the time every year that I get SUPER excited about the holidays.  I hope you all enjoy the project and the movie.  Let me know if you see the movie and what you think of it.  Again, be warned that the storyline is SAD (having to do with school shootings) and much of the language is offensive.  Not for kids!

Have a great week everybody.
