I actually saw a necklace similar to this recently and decided to try my hand at a version of it. It was so much easier than I thought it would be - and SO sparkly, sophisticated and gorgeous! I might just have to make it in a few different color ways...

Instructions:
Cut your chain so you have four 13 link pieces.
On a headpin, pick up a rondelle. Run the headpin through the second to last link on a 13 link piece of chain. Add a 10mm pearl. Run the headpin through the second to last link of chain on another 13 link piece of chain. Make a simple loop.
Repeat step 2 ten more times so you have filled up every link of chain on 2 of your 13 link pieces - except for the links at each end. These links should remain free of beads.
On a headpin, pick up a 12mm glass pearl. Make a simple loop. Attach it to one of the loops created in steps 2 and 3.
Repeat step 4 until all of your loops have glass pearl dangles.
Open a jump ring. Attach it to the 2 end links at one end of your wrapped chain segment. Close the ring. Attach another jump ring.
Open a jump ring. Attach it to the 2 jump rings added in step 6. Then attach it to one end of a 13 link piece of chain. Close the jump ring. Attach another jump ring.
Open a jump ring. Attach it to one half of your clasp. Then attach it to the other end of the 13 link piece of chain from step 7. Close the jump ring.
Repeat steps 6 through 8 on the other side to complete the necklace.

10mm Glass Pearl Round Bead Strand, Amethyst (11 pieces)
12mm Glass Pearl Round Bead Strand, Amethyst (11 pieces)
Chinese Crystal Rondelle Bead Strand, Metallic Rain, 6x8mm (22 pieces)
OR
Chinese Crystal Rondelle Bead Strand, Rainbow, 6x8mm (22 pieces)
Aluminum Chain, Matte Gold, 14.4x9mm (2 feet)
Antique Brass Plated 2 Inch Head Pins, 21 Gauge, Bag of 10 (22 pieces)
Antique Brass Jump Rings, Open, Bag of 10, 5mm, 20 Gauge (10 pieces)
Antique Brass Double Oval Lock Clasp, 25mm
Nipper Tool
Round Nose Pliers
Chain Nose Pliers (2 pair)

Love the idea-And my end result
Based on the comments I used 8mm pearls and they work perfectly. I chose to use soft pink pearls, copper chain with copper rondelles. I am quite pleased with the results-wore it today and received a number of positive comments. I really like the aluminum chain, I'll be ordering more in some of the really great colors. I also plan to make a bracelet in a similar design. Thanks for another really cool and different idea.

NEW FAVORITE!!
This is one of my favorite designs now!! I mix it up with the colors and Metal tones, and even have gone to using coordinating teardrop crystals as the drops.. This design also transfers nicely to a beautiful bracelet design. As mentioned above, the 10mm pearls don't work well, I also use 8mm pearls between the chain.

This does not lay correctly with the 10mm beads!
I ordered the purple pearls to put this necklace together and was not happy with the fact that the 10mm pearls were too large to allow the necklace to lay correctly around the neck. I did however choose to use pearls that I had in 8mm & 10mm and there is more give and the necklace does look great around the neck.
