This fancy square style German wire gives a unique look to your wire wrapped projects. Great for setting stones, too.
A good way to make wire wrapped components with this wire is to use three or more square wires bound together by tightly wrapping the flat side of the half-round wire around them. Tighten each half-turn with bent chain nose pliers. This is the basic structure that most wire wrapping using square and half-round wire is built on. Once you have a tight wrap, you can easily add components by bending and forming the square wire. Combine different gauges for distinctive results.
Try your hand at setting stones and pendants! Use the same technique as above, making three separate wraps on longer lengths of square wire, then bend the entire piece around the stone you have picked out. Use small bends to keep a tight, attractive fit. Separate outside square wire to hold the stone from the top and the bottom. You can then make your own bail with the remaining wires. |
