Rating Silver coating wears away?

I use this wire all the time and noticing after a while the silver coating is wearing away. No, it doesn't tarnish but you can see the copper wire underneath after just a few months. Has anyone else had this issue with this wire?

Great wire to use for a range of wirewrapping projects. Heavy enough for most, yet still can get neat wraps without my fingers and wrists objecting.

Rating Looks beautiful, works easily

I'm a wire wrapper too, and when the metal prices shot up I was forced to use copper-coated wire. Artistic is far better than I had hoped, even better than sterling, in that it doesn't tarnish. It's just flexible enough and has a gorgeous silver sheen which complements any bead or gemstone. I will definitely buy it again.

Love the fact that this is a non-tarnish product! A great buy especially when on sale & with Beaders Advantage Membership! I didn't have any problems with flaking, softens up nicely when warmed in your hands. Use it mostly for wire wrapping. A great wire for beginners to pros.

I enjoy working with this wire! I can bend it, but it isn't flimsy. This is the only wire I buy for wire wrapping. It doesn't tarnish like silver and looks like silver.

Q: where can I find your sterling silver wire?

A: We don't have Sterling Silver wire at this time. We do sell Artistic Wire which is colored wire made of copper as well as nickel-free, non-tarnish silver plated Beadalon wire.

Q: Hi, I am going to make wire pendant loops - as seen in one of your videos - on more than 50 stone pendant focal beads I have received. I was looking at the supplies I needed to order from you to follow your video. The video said to use 20 or 22 gauge wire. This wire is the suggested wire and I just wondered if it could be purchase in sterling silver (I know it would be much more expensive)? I see in the description of this wire, it is round. When trying to find artistic wire in sterling silver (on your site or via google) I can't seem to find anything but sterling silver wire "half hard" and I don't know if that means sterling silver not "half hard" is too hard to work with for wrapping and I could buy the "half hard" round in order to have my sterling silver wire? I would appreciate any guidance you could give me. Thank you in advance. J C
Asked by: - 2/16/2015 (Submit an answer)
A: Hello JC. I hope I can answer your question. Artistic Wire is a brand of wire that does not come in Sterling Silver. However yes you can buy Sterling Silver wire, this is some information I found on the hardness:
If the wire is soft and pliable, it is dead soft. You use dead soft wire for "soft" bending (not a sharp corner), like for spirals and free flowing designs. If the wire is not that soft and gives some resistance, it is half hard. Half hard wire is good for sharp corner bends and wrapping around itself like a wrapped eye pin. If the wire has even more resistance and the wire is springy, you call it hard.
So I would say you would like half hard wire.
