This is not only very thin, but also uneven on the underside. The answer I got back from Auntie's is that this material is in inherently thin. In my opinion paua shell should not be made into a cabochon. If you are looking to buy this cabochon to place in a setting I would suggest purchasing a different type stone made into a cabochon that would have a symmetrical shape with much more substance and depth. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was that it is a pretty material.

Questions and Answers
Q:I ordered this cabochon on my order # AB-193805 that I just received today, 8/23. I am very disappointed with how thin this cabochon is. And it is not smooth or level on the underside. It is 2mm thick on part of it and is 2 1/2mm on the other part. Is this cabochon supposed to be only 2 to 2 1/2mm thick?
A: It is a natural shell and it very well may have some difference in the shape and thickness, because it is natural the shell is thin, as it is a thin layer. If you are not happy with it you may ask customer service for a RMA.
